An Evening of Short Films
Sun, 1st Nov 2026 06:30 pm
A collection of short films that trace the connections between land, water, memory and diaspora Sketching stories of memory, migration and ancestral connection, these short films ask how land and water travels with us, bringing together filmmakers from Western Sydney and beyond. Aprille Asfoura’s HANEEN traces Palestinian-Australian memory between Bethlehem, the Blue Mountains and Sydney’s coast, while Where Ends Meet, by San May, Maggie Tra, Annabel Hom and Sovanarry Chan, brings Cambodian classical dance into dialogue with contemporary movement and electronic music to explore diaspora, ritual and belonging. Sivani Yaddanapudi’s collaborative film God Does Not Forget You turns to land, water and the stories held between generations, and San May’s meditative animation Bodies Remember, Stones Remember takes its cue from a Persian percussion workshop. Rounding out the program is Ali Rezvani’s stop-motion film Submerged: A Fish Out of Water, which follows a man who returns to find his village lost beneath a dam. Join us after the screening for an exclusive Q&A with the filmmakers, hosted by Curator Vandana Ram. Don’t miss out on An Afternoon of Music and Dance beforehand. Thank you to our Idealist donors, Heidi Forbes and Matthew Allen, The Skrzynski Foundation, and The Helens Gift, for their generous support of this project. Presented by Sydney Opera House and CuriousWorks
