One-Day Workshop with Mary Caia Step into the world of illustration and discover how an idea can develop from an initial concept into a finished series of images. In this one-day workshop, I will guide you through the stages of creating illustrations for children’s books, greeting cards and other forms of visual storytelling. We will explore how to interpret a brief and develop an image that captures attention, communicates an idea and invites the viewer to look a little closer. Drawing on my own background as a professional illustrator, I’ll introduce you to the creative process behind developing your own visual language and bringing your individuality into your work. Throughout the day we will explore concept development, drawing, composition, visual metaphor and the use of reference material to support your vision. We’ll also look at creating a concept for a series of works, including how to maintain continuity of a character through different viewpoints, expressions and scenes. Whether you are interested in illustrating a story, developing a series of images, or simply exploring illustration as a new creative direction, this workshop will give you a practical introduction to the process. Materials & Refreshments All paints will be supplied. A list of any additional materials you’ll need to bring will be sent once you have expressed your interest in the workshop. Morning and afternoon tea will also be provided. Montsalvat has a lovely café where you can purchase lunch, or you’re very welcome to bring your own. Weather permitting, we can enjoy lunch together in Montsalvat’s beautiful garden grounds. Minimum of 4 participants To ensure the workshop can go ahead, a minimum of four participants is required.
