Syrian Dabke for Women - Move, Connect & Celebrate We’ll be learning Bedwen Syrian Dabke, a slower style of Dabke from my hometown. It’s a great place to start if you’ve never danced Dabke before - no experience needed. What to expect: 🌸 A gentle warm-up to get your body moving 👣 Learn the basic Dabke rhythm and simple movements, step by step 💃 Dance to Syrian music and learn a simple Dabke choreography ✨ A little space to connect with yourself, your body and others A little bit personal... Dabke has been part of my life for as long as I can remember - from weddings and celebrations growing up in Syria to dancing here in Australia. This workshop is also a little celebration for me: nine years since I arrived in Australia :) I wanted to mark it by sharing a taste of my culture, and inviting other women to experience it with me. What to bring: • Yoga mat • Water bottle • Comfortable clothes you can move in • Yourself - no dance experience required! Women only | Beginners welcome Come as you are. We’ll learn, move, laugh and dance together.

About the Host
Raneem grew up in Syria with Dabke around her - at weddings, family celebrations, gatherings, and those moments when someone puts on a song and suddenly everyone is dabke-ying! She’s a Syrian-born community facilitator, storyteller and Dabke lover who has carried that love with her from Syria to Australia, continuing to dance at community events, celebrations and performances along the way. Come dance with her, learn a little, and share a bit of home.
