"A journey between compositions, improvisations and tradition" The Metin Yilmaz Quartet blends the mystical voice of the Bilûr/Kaval with piano, double bass and drums, weaving Kurdish Anatolian modes, microtonal scales, meditative improvisation and contemporary jazz into a transformative meeting of innovation and heritage. Featuring Metin Yilmaz – Bilûr/Kaval, Jodie Michael – drums, Matt McMahon – piano, and Steve Elphick – double bass. A student of Kaval masters Ustad Sinan Celik and Osman Aktas, Metin's music reflects his Kurdish heritage and performances across Turkey, Europe and Australia. (Doors open at 7.30pm)
