Beloved Scottish indie pop group Belle and Sebastian have announced their return to Australia to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their seminal album If You're Feeling Sinister. The highly revered seven piece will perform the album in full alongside fan favourites from their stellar catalogue. Belle and Sebastian helped define a generation of indie pop with their quietly radical sound. Considered pioneers of the twee pop genre, the band became known for their intricate, 60's inspired arrangements. With their charming, nostalgic sound characterised by frontman Stuart Murdoch's introspective lyrics, the band offered an alternative to the bravado of Britpop. Their sophomore album If You're Feeling Sinister has grown to become a cult favourite. The album was praised by The Guardian as "subtly poetic, wickedly funny, and gorgeously melodic". Pitchfork recently honoured the album's anniversary with a re-review, scoring it a rare 10, describing it as "marvelous" and "cult-forming" with "exquisite literary and musical detail". Rolling Stone placed the album at No. 75 on their 100 Best Albums of the Nineties list and No. 481 on their 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Belle & Sebastian are praised as a "thoroughly impressive live band" that creates "both chaotic and utterly captivating" stage dynamics.
