***At the Ember Lounge *** Born in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Soonkie 绮绮 is a Melbourne-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer blending heartfelt storytelling with melodic pop and alternative soundscapes. With roots in Fujian and Guangdong, China, her musical journey began at age seven on the keyboard before joining her school’s Chinese orchestra, where she performed the liuqin and composed her first original piece by age nine. Alongside music, Soonkie developed a strong stage presence through comedy, hosting cultural events, and competing in multilingual storytelling and public speaking competitions. She later graduated with honours in Pharmacy from Monash University and was invited into the Golden Key International Honour Society for academic excellence. Despite her academic career, music remained central to her life. She continued studying singing, songwriting, acting, appearing in Australian films, television series, and commercials while building her identity as an independent artist in Melbourne’s live music scene.
