David Haberfeld, aka Honeysmack, is a pioneer of Australia’s electronic and techno scenes, renowned for raw, improvisational hardware-based live sets that fuse Acid, Techno, and experimental sound. Emerging from the underground of the 1990s, he has remained a defining force in live electronic music, continually pushing its boundaries while staying deeply connected to the culture that shaped him. Bringing a punk ethos to live techno, Honeysmack thrives on spontaneity, intensity, and a hands-on approach to sound. Rejecting rigid, pre-programmed sets, his performances unfold as a high-voltage interplay of chaos and control—visceral, physical, and closer in spirit to a live band than a conventional DJ set. This is not DJing. Using drum machines, synthesizers, and modular gear, he builds and reshapes music entirely in real time—no pre-made tracks, no safety nets. Each performance is unrepeatable, driven by instinct and shaped through interaction with machines and the dancefloor, with performances extending to Europe and the United States, continuing to challenge convention and redefine what live techno can be.
