Sydney songstress and multi-instrumentalist Ella Haber brings her long-awaited debut album ‘through blood, like kin’ (Planet Trip Records) to Melbourne, joined by her powerhouse 7-piece band ahead of their Strawberry Fields debut that weekend. She’ll be joined by Naarm soul icon Nkechi Anele and funk aficionados College of Knowledge DJs, promising a soul-stirring night of groove, community and connection. Crafted over five years with close collaborator Yianni Adams and blurring the genres of jazz, folk, alternative soul and psychedelic R&B, 'through blood, like kin' pays reverence to the profound and marvellous loves that fuel and define our lives outside of romantic monogamous partnerships. As Ella puts it, “It is about revelling in the in-between, in the vast interconnected network of kin that holds us all, and in those connections that blur the boundaries we know.” Ella’s unique fusion of jazz-infused arrangements, raw lyricism, powerful vocals and genre-defying production has earned her support from UK tastemakers Gilles Peterson and Jamz Supernova, festival invitations at We Out Here Festival (UK) and Strawberry Fields (Aus), and coveted support slots for major UK acts like Alfa Mist (Sydney Opera House - VIVID), Cymande, Kamaal Williams, Emma-Jean Thackeray and local heavyweights Close Counters, Ngaiire and Surprise Chef. Propelled by this powerful momentum, Ella now prepares to bring her stirring debut album ‘through blood, like kin’ into the world and she is thrilled to share it live with her Melbourne community.
