Hosted by Amnesty International University of Melbourne, and brought to you by UMSU Education The Gala for Gaza is a student-driven cultural and fundraising event designed to raise awareness, solidarity, and tangible support for humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza. Through an evening of cultural performances, academic seminars, games & activities, arts & crafts stalls, raffles, and shared food, the event aims to bring together diverse communities in an engaging, educational, and impactful format. All profits will go toward respected humanitarian organisations providing urgent assistance in Gaza, including UNRWA, PCRF, Doctors Without Borders, Save the Children, ICRC (Red Cross), Oxfam and Amnesty International. Context: The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to escalate, with communities facing widespread displacement, food insecurity (now declared famine and genocide by the UN), and lack of essential medical care. While global awareness has grown, local communities, especially in universities often seek meaningful ways to contribute beyond passive support. The Gala for Gaza responds to this need by creating a platform for education, cultural expression, and collective action. It bridges activism, cultural appreciation, and solidarity by spotlighting Palestinian culture alongside expert voices on the humanitarian situation. Activities: Stalls & Displays: Cultural stalls featuring art & crafts, food, games & activities, information booths, and merchandise to raise funds and awareness. Cultural Performances: Live music and dance highlighting Palestinian and Middle Eastern groups in solidarity. Seminars & Panel Discussions: Academics, human rights advocates, and community leaders will provide context on the crisis and pathways to action.
