Raqs Sharqi for Mutual Aid Raqs Sharqi is a dance tradition born in Egypt and deeply connected to the wider Arab world and SWANA region. Rooted in music, emotion and cultural memory, it carries histories of joy, resilience, resistance, celebration, and survival. This special class is offered in solidarity with the people of Palestine. Together, we will move through the beauty, feeling, and musicality of Raqs Sharqi while honouring the cultural worlds that shaped it and continue to hold it. Open to all levels. Come as you are, with respect, care, and an open heart. All proceeds from this class will go towards the mutual aid night market common fund - supporting First Nations and Palestinian communities. Tickets are all to the same class offered at different prices (starting at $30), please give what you can afford. Can’t make it on the day but still want to support? The Mutual Aid Market Inner West is a community run event raising funds for First Nations and Palestinian (both here and in Palestine) communities. The market hosts a range of stalls including fresh food, art, home goods, books, jewellery, henna art, coffee cup readings, kids corner for activities and lots more! We acknowledge that the Mutual Aid Market Inner West is held on the lands of the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Darug Nation, the traditional custodians of the Cooks River catchment where Addi Road is located and pay our respects to Ancestors and Elders past and present.
