John Henderson has an undeniably rich sense of jazz. They play like they got somewhere to be, like the music is taking them there whether they’re ready or not. A spectacle of originals, yet, in essence, music with inalienable characteristics; this band boasts a sound that Melbourne hasn’t seen in a local piano trio. Stalwarts of the 2010’s jazz-adjacent explosion, John Henderson sees it’s original founders, pianist Joshua “John” Smeltink and bassist Henry “Henderson” Hicks in their most cherished setting; alongside friend, ally and permanent fixture, Damien Ellis on drums; playing jazz of the firebrands.
